Puerto Rico’s immersive booth at FITUR Madrid 2026 showcasing experiential destination design

FITUR Madrid 2026: Latin America Set the Benchmark for Experiential Booth Design

At FITUR Madrid 2026, destination booths proved once again that experience matters more than information. Mexico delivered scale and authority — but Puerto Rico set the benchmark for experiential design.

Today I wrapped up my visit at FITUR Madrid 2026. After stopping by the Türkiye stand, I spent the rest of the day exploring the Latin American booths — and what I saw was a strong reminder of how trade fairs have evolved.

A booth is no longer just a space for brochures and meetings. In today’s travel market, a booth is a brand stage — a micro “experience” that communicates identity in seconds. At Medisa Hospitality, we often emphasize a simple truth:

People don’t choose destinations through information — they choose through feeling.

This year’s FITUR partner country, Mexico, delivered a powerful presence with scale, visibility, and a clear sense of authority. But the booth that left the strongest impression on me was Puerto Rico. Honestly, if there were an “Best Booth” award, Puerto Rico should take it.

Mexico: Turning Square Meters into Leadership Presence

Mexico’s strength wasn’t only its size. Large footprint alone can easily become empty space unless it is designed with intent. Mexico handled that challenge well by translating scale into structure:

  • Strong visibility: Clear messaging and bold visual layers from a distance

  • Visitor flow: A layout that carries crowds without losing brand clarity

  • Partner-country energy: A confident “leadership” tone that matches the role

  • Multiple story angles: Not a single visual message, but layered themes and sub-narratives

In short: Mexico turned presence into perception — and that matters at a show like FITUR.

Puerto Rico: Experiential Design Done Right

Puerto Rico’s booth operated on a different level: it wasn’t just a booth — it was an immersive set. Not simply LED screens or decoration, but a complete environment that pulls visitors in, stops them, and creates a natural “share moment.”

Here’s what made it stand out:

1) The story lands in three seconds

The message is instantly felt: island energy, light, horizon, rhythm, and discovery. Visitors don’t need to interpret it — they experience it.

2) The photo moment is designed, not accidental

The strongest booths today are built for social sharing. Floor textures, lighting, depth, and framing were clearly planned to generate organic content — the kind of exposure you can’t buy as efficiently through ads.

3) Screen + space become a single stage

A big screen alone is no longer enough. Puerto Rico integrated the screen into the physical environment, creating a true “scene,” not just a display.

4) It sells emotion, not information

Everyone has brochures. Everyone has QR codes. But decisions are triggered by emotion. Puerto Rico delivered emotion — and that’s exactly what premium destination branding should do.

Medisa Hospitality Takeaway: Why This Matters

From a Medisa Hospitality perspective, these booths show where the industry is heading: experience economy thinking is now the standard for both destinations and hospitality brands.

A great booth doesn’t only perform during the fair. It creates lasting outcomes after the event:

  • Stronger premium perception (trust, desirability, curiosity)

  • Higher-quality B2B engagement (better meetings, better leads)

  • Organic social reach (the brand travels beyond the exhibition hall)

The simplest way to say it is this:
A booth is a destination’s short film.
And the best booths are the ones that make you feel something.

5 Practical Lessons for Destinations & Hospitality Brands

  1. One clear message: Visitors should understand it in 3 seconds

  2. Design a “share moment”: Create a deliberate photo/story spot

  3. Manage the flow: Crowd movement is as important as visibility

  4. Add an emotional layer: Don’t just inform — make people feel

  5. Details create quality: Light, textures, rhythm, and depth define “premium”

Final Note

Mexico proved how scale can be translated into leadership presence. But in terms of immersive, shareable, emotionally-driven storytelling, Puerto Rico set the benchmark. If FITUR 2026 had a “Best Booth” award, my vote is clear.

Experiential design is no longer an option — it’s the language of modern destination branding.
